At the beginning of the 19th century, Tripoli’s Muslims and Christians Orthodox agreed to replace the old church that was adjacent to the Ouayseya Mosque in the Old City with a mosque in the Tarbeeh area to build a new church. In 1908 the work of St. Nicholas Church began in Oriental style, a rectangular shape without domes characterized by four frames. The church is considered a museum for ancient icons, some of which moved from the mother church in the old city, one of which was the Lady’s Shepherd of the Church Icon dating back to the fifteenth century. It was discovered when restored in France that it enfolded several icons on top of each other.
