About

Characterized by its dome, which is considered to be the largest dome in Tripoli, its origin is a small corner built in the days of the Mamluks and later converted into a mosque during the days of the Ottomans, and a distinctive Ottoman-style minaret was added to it. After an exchange between Muslims and Christians a part that was occupied by a nearby church in front of an estuary in the area of Tarbiya was added to it and was converted to the well-known Church of St. Nicolas. It was called Ouaisya after one of the Sufi sheikhs Ouais Al-Roumi. It is located on the west bank of Abu Ali River in the fish market.
