About
It was built by Mahmud Lutfi al-Zaeem, one of the most prominent people of the city of Tripoli during the Ottoman era in 1555. It is called the Mosque of al-Zaeeim or Mahmudiyah, or the most widely known “Al Mouallaq Mosque” because part of it is located hanging over an old street of stone arches. It has an octagonal minaret of beautiful shape and detail with eight arches topped by a balcony in each of its eight ribs with a circular pattern that resembles a flower so that each flower is different from the other.
